In this blog, we are going to learn how to create custom forming tool for a sheet metal component and how many times we can reuse the part present in design library in order to reduced time to redo it again.
Lets first create the forming tool in SolidWorks

Create the center point straight slot and split the face and assign red color on the split face as shown in the image.
Note:- Red color indicate that the material from sheet metal part gets removed when we drag and drop the part onto our sheetmetal component.
Save this file in a *sldprt*
Make a sheet of 2 mm thickness as mentioned
Drag the part “Key” from the design library and drop it on on the sheet.
- Add a second Form Tool feature rather than patterning it, this will ensure sketch geometry placement for both.
- Confirm the thickness of Forming Tool to Thickness of Part file.
- Make sure Link to form tool is selected in the Property Manager. So if you change the original forming tool, the changes propagate to target parts where you use the forming tool.
